About

This is my personal blog. It’s for me, but if you find anything you enjoy, you’re welcome to hang out.

I live on Vancouver Island with my two foster-fail cats and one husky who is basically every “never get a husky” meme blended into one perpetually frenetic furstorm. She’s a nightmare. I adore her.

My relationship with words began early; as a kid, I devoured books like they were going extinct, my childhood bedroom was an homage to hoarders, filled with book heaps. I scribbled poetry and short stories between library visits, and attempted several novels that taught me everything about starting stories and absolutely nothing about ending them.

My writing went into hibernation during undergrad, probably off in whatever dimension my will to attend 8 AM lectures absconded to. But the first epoch of blogging, in the 2000s, eventually lured me back to keyboards, leading onwards to a Master’s in communications (which was, if I’m honest, partially a socially acceptable excuse to avoid adulting for a while longer).

Then came my accidental tech career: my digital anthropology background somehow convinced an indie game company I belonged there, sending me on a side quest that unexpectedly leveled me up to “actual software developer.” I’m still waiting for the email that says, “Sorry, we meant to hire someone else.”

But academia called again: two more degrees later (a second Master’s and PhD in medical anthropology), I discovered that while I could commit to studying humans and their peculiar habits, academia and I were fundamentally incompatible. “Publish or perish” has a secret third option: peace out.

Now I’m back in tech, working remotely in my natural habitat of pet hair, three overworked Roombas, and coffee mugs everywhere, trying to rekindle my relationship with writing. This blog is my place to throw anything at the wall to see what sticks, vomit up some word salad, and maybe — occasionally — do something beautiful with words and ideas.
